I became a fan of The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" first hearing it from the movie soundtrack Cruel Intentions (1999), starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Ryan Phillipe. This song has really reflected how society views money and the expectations of everyday life. The lyrics "You're a slave to money then you die" shows us that people have the belief that money can buy you everything, even if you work yourself to the bone to get it. Money is everything; It enslaves you to the point of losing relationships, spiritual connection, homes, food, etc. The thought of you will be happy with a lot of money, or being happier with less money, is a topic that many people may have a conflict of opinion. This song has the potential to make a person reflect on their daily life choices and actions, and that is what I love about it.
